There are many mistakes that we do, as an example, we could think that social media has little effects on SEO results. Many people think that social media links are useless, because they have nofollow tag and Google assigns zero values because they are very easy to create. However, social media is actually one of the easiest ways to gain early traffic. If people are interested enough with our content, it is possible that they will add links to our website. It is true that social media won’t benefit rank results, but this should clearly affect SEO in the long run. Facebook has started to apply more comprehensive search engine on its own. Website owners could also add content on their official Facebook and it is often indexed in Google search results.

We may also think that Google can’t read CSS files and this isn’t true. Google bots were once quite primitive and they were able to read only text. In fact, it has developed significantly enough to read codes, like CSS and JavaScript. Crawlers will also consider whether we have adequate presentation and Google know this by analyzing CSS files. As an example, our website may not appear on mobile websites if we have improper layout for mobile purposes.

Website owners focus too much on homepage, because they think that it is necessary to update home page frequently. We could think that updating home page is essential and our ranking will drop if we fail to do so. In reality, there’s no reason to update our homepage, unless there’s nothing that we should change. As an example, we could have updates about new products or software releases. Any changes on main page should be relevant enough.

Based on old SEO concept, it is believed that H1 header has more significant SEO value than the rest of weboage. In reality, websites are structured quite differently and it isn’t true that one tag is more important than the other. Google considers keyword density as a more important factor and it shouldn’t be less or higher than five percent of our total word count.

We often try to put our links on highly ranked sites with relevant keywords. However, this step isn’t too helpful if our website isn;t relevant enough. Google has specific algorithm called PageRank that decides how our website should be ranked. It is also an indication how useful our website is to others. However, PageRank isn’t the only thing that matters. There are other factors that Google considers as well. The company stays tight lipped about them, but we know that websites on top positions have high traffic, have unique content and are considered informative by many readers.

We are also often afraid to use automated SEO tools, because we think that it is related to spam. In reality, many companies use automated scripts to make grunt work faster to complete. Whether or not the method is spammy, is if the method tries to replace tasks that are supposed to be organic in nature.
